Support designed for you, not around you.

Two studios, twelve ways in. Whether you are leading a school through change or rebuilding a life after one, the starting point is the same conversation.

What does Koru Creativity offer?

Koru Creativity provides consultancy across two studios. Koru Learning offers school improvement support to schools, trusts and organisations across the UK. Koru Living offers lifestyle design to individuals in transition. Both are led personally by founder Paul McDowell, and every engagement is scoped after a free introductory conversation.

Koru Learning

School improvement, led by someone who has done the job

Delivered by a leader with thirty years in education rather than a consultant who has read about it — which mostly shows up in the questions asked during the first hour on site.

Curriculum & enrichment
A curriculum that is genuinely ambitious for every child, with the arts, travel and cultural capital built in rather than bolted on.
Includes: curriculum review · enrichment audit · arts and cultural capital strand · international links · sequencing and progression
Team cohesion & evolution
What happens between the people, rather than on the improvement plan. Helping teams move through change without losing the trust that makes a school work.
Includes: SLT facilitation · whole-staff days · surfacing the unspoken · roles and decision rights · restructures and transitions
Belonging & attachment
Building the conditions in which children who arrive guarded or disengaged can settle enough to learn. Underpinned by UNICEF practice.
Includes: routines and rituals review · transition planning · relational practice training · environment review · behaviour policy alignment
Diversity & inclusion
Turning a policy commitment into lived culture, led by someone whose master's dissertation examined equality and diversity. Inclusion delivered as a document changes nothing.
Includes: EDI audit · representation review · staff development · governor support · action planning with owners and dates
Leadership coaching & performance management
Confidential, experienced support for headteachers, deputies and aspiring leaders — plus appraisal designed to develop people rather than merely record them.
Includes: one-to-one coaching · headteacher sounding board · aspiring leader support · appraisal design · difficult conversation planning · succession
Culture & environment
Reading a school building the way a designer reads a home, and changing what it says. The point where thirty years of school leadership and a lifelong interiors practice meet.
Includes: whole-site walk-through · display and corridor strategy · reception and first impressions · staff spaces · outdoor space · costed priorities
Koru Living

A considered reset of how you live

Clients are rarely looking for a decorator. They are usually standing in a house that belonged to a life they no longer live, holding a wardrobe bought for a version of themselves that has moved on.

Interior design
A home that reflects your personality and genuinely comforts you. Slower and more personal than a standard design service, because the brief usually has to be discovered rather than handed over.
Includes: whole-house or single room · space planning · colour, light and material palettes · furniture and art sourcing · working with what you own · phased plans
Outdoor living spaces
Treating a garden, terrace or balcony as a room of the house rather than the bit left over outside it.
Includes: zoning for eating, gathering and growing · furniture and lighting · planting direction · year-round usability
Personal shopping
Buying well for yourself, and choosing thoughtfully for the people you care about. Unhurried, opinionated, and free of pressure to buy anything at all.
Includes: accompanied trips in person or online · buying for a new chapter · gift curation · homeware and art sourcing
Wardrobe audits & styling
An honest review of what you own, what you wear and what you have kept out of habit — then a working wardrobe for the stage you are entering.
Includes: item-by-item review · what stays, goes and is missing · defining a personal style · a capsule of real outfits · shopping list · storage and care
Arts & cultural signposting
Exhibitions, performances and city breaks worth your time, from someone whose love of the arts and travel has shaped an entire career.
Includes: personal recommendations · city break planning · building a realistic cultural routine · going alone with confidence
Planning your next chapter
A structured, optimistic look at what you want the coming years to hold. Practical rather than therapeutic — the output is a plan, not a feeling.
Includes: what you want more and less of · mapping the practical changes · prioritising · setting a realistic pace with review points

Different rooms, same house. Koru Living helps you design a life that feels like you.

How engagements are structured

01
Discovery day
A single day on site or in the home, ending in a written summary with prioritised recommendations.
02
Focused project
A defined piece of work with a clear beginning and end — a curriculum review, an inclusion audit, a whole-house design, a wardrobe reset.
03
Retained programme
Ongoing support across a term, an academic year or a longer personal transition, with an agreed rhythm of visits and calls.

Frequently asked questions

What does a school improvement consultant actually do?

A school improvement consultant works alongside leaders to identify what is holding a school back and build a practical plan for change. With Koru Learning that spans curriculum, team cohesion, belonging, inclusion, leadership coaching and the culture and environment a school creates.

Yes. Most schools begin with a single strand or a discovery day and widen the work only if it proves useful.

A wardrobe audit can be done in a day. A phased reset of a home, wardrobe and routine typically runs over several months, deliberately — this work goes badly when rushed.

Almost always, and it is usually the better starting point. Much of the work is deciding what carries meaning and deserves to come with you.

Not sure which studio you need?

A perfectly normal place to start. Thirty minutes, no obligation, an honest answer either way.
