Creative Strategy. Lasting Impact.
Koru Creativity helps schools, organisations and individuals across the UK design what comes next.
What is Koru Creativity?
Koru Creativity is a UK consultancy founded by Paul McDowell, bringing together thirty years of leadership in education and a lifelong practice in interiors and lifestyle design. It works through two studios: Koru Learning, supporting schools and organisations with curriculum, culture, inclusion and leadership; and Koru Living, helping adults reset their homes, wardrobes and daily lives at a moment of change. Both work with clients throughout the United Kingdom.
Growth is rarely tidy. It arrives as a new headteacher inheriting a tired staffroom, or as an empty house after a marriage ends. What people need then is not a template it is someone who starts where they actually are.
Two studios. One philosophy.
One founder. Two audiences. Different rooms, same house.
Koru Learning
School improvement for schools, trusts and organisations: curriculum and enrichment, team cohesion, belonging and attachment, diversity and inclusion, leadership coaching, and culture and environment. Strategy delivered by someone who has held the role, not just studied it.
Koru Living
Lifestyle design for adults embracing change a breakup, a move, a new decade. Interiors, outdoor spaces, wardrobe audits, personal shopping and next chapter planning. Not a makeover for the ‘gram; a considered, unhurried reset.
Why the koru?
The koru Māori for loop or coil is the unfurling frond of the silver fern, an integral symbol in Māori art representing new life, growth, strength and peace. Its outward spiral suggests movement; its inner coil, a return to the authentic self.
It was chosen as a considered homage to the founder’s own story. It is also an honest description of how this work goes: nobody moves forward in a straight line.
Growth is personal. Growth is cyclical. Growth is yours.
Meet Paul McDowell
Paul McDowell is the founder of Koru Creativity. He spent thirty years in education, latterly in senior school leadership, specialising in inclusion, transformational leadership and raising aspiration for disadvantaged children. He holds a master’s degree with a dissertation on equality and diversity, and has worked with the NAHT’s equality networks.
His work has taken him into schools in Auckland, New York, Taipei, Datong, Zagreb and Carcassonne. The interiors work is not a second career bolted on it is the same instinct pointed at a different room.
Frequently asked questions
Where is Koru Creativity based, and where do you work?
Koru Creativity works with clients throughout the United Kingdom, remotely and in person. Initial conversations are usually held by video call.
Are Koru Learning and Koru Living separate businesses?
No — two studios within one consultancy, led by the same person. They carry different names because a headteacher and a homeowner need different language.
Do I need to work in education to use Koru Living?
Not at all. Koru Living is for anyone navigating a personal change, and has no connection to your profession.
What is the first step?
A free thirty-minute conversation. Its only purpose is to work out whether this is the right fit — and to say so honestly if it is not.
Providing the room to unfurl
Whether it is a classroom or a living room, the right support starts by meeting you exactly where you are.
